Maintenance Treatment

Just as a patient with asthma relies on an inhaler, many individuals dealing with opioid use disorder may require medication indefinitely.

Your provider at Rescue Recovery will tailor a personalized plan to address your specific needs and promote lasting recovery. Your well-being is our priority, and our experienced team is dedicated to guiding you through each step of the healing process.

Medical Detoxification

The combination of intense cravings and withdrawal symptoms makes completion of opioid withdrawal very difficult for most people. Individuals may utilize Suboxone for a limited period, aiming to stabilize themselves during acute withdrawal and post withdrawal to manage
the carvings and withdrawal symptoms from opioid drugs.

Combined with counseling, a personalized treatment plan, and the provider’s clinical judgment, a decreasing dose of Suboxone can be prescribed in order to support a successful detoxification process.

Long-term tapering

Patients desiring to become opioid-free and to engage in rehabilitation aimed at an opioid-free lifestyle, can be detoxified over 6-24 months (or longer) by gradually decreasing the stabilization dose of buprenorphine.

Moderate-term tapering

Patients desiring to become opioid-free and to engage in rehabilitation aimed at an opioid-free lifestyle, can be detoxified over 3-8 months (or longer) by gradually decreasing the stabilization dose of buprenorphine.

Short-term tapering

Short-term tapering is not recommended, as the patient has a higher chance of relapse. It is advised with caution and is reserved for situations necessitating a speedy transition to an opioid-free state. This service spans 14-35 days (or longer), gradually decreasing the patient's stabilization dose of Buprenorphine. Eligibility hinges on the patient's current stable dose.

Rapid tapering

Patients with a compelling reason to achieve an opioid-free state quickly is not recommended. However, if absolutely needed for reasons such as (e.g., impending incarceration, foreign travel, job requirement) should seek an inpatient detox center.

*It is recommended patients remain
in rehabilitation services, such as therapy or support groups, during and after
the conclusion of all the detoxification protocols.

Tiers of Treatment

The Rescue Recovery’s Tiers of Treatment is a program designed to motivate and reward the patient for doing well in their treatment and recovery.

Patients advance through 3 Tiers. Each Tier determines the frequency of counseling/therapy or group sessions, length of prescription and frequency of visits. The ultimate goal is to have you live a more stable and productive life.

Tier 1 (Weekly visits)

Requirement #1: Individuals are highly encouraged to attend at least one therapy/counseling or support group session per month, unless otherwise determined by medical provider.

Requirement #2: Individuals will have a urine/oral drug screen done at each visit. Individuals must be negative for illicit substances except buprenorphine for 28 days before moving to Tier 2.

Requirement #3: Individuals must complete initial lab work ordered by medical provider or sign the “Refusal of Laboratory Testing” form before moving to Tier 2.

Requirement #4: Individuals must not miss any of their appointments, if they have, it must have been under extraordinary circumstances.

If the above criteria are met in the first 28 days of treatment, patients will progress to Tier 2.

Tier 2 (Bi-weekly visits)

Requirement #1: Individuals are highly encouraged to regularly attend at least one therapy/counseling or support group session per month, unless otherwise determined by medical provider.

Requirement #2: Individuals will have urine/oral drug screens done every 2 weeks. Individuals must be negative for illicit substances except buprenorphine for 28 days in tier 2 before moving to Tier 3.

Requirement #3: Individuals must not miss any of their appointments, if they have, it must have been under extraordinary circumstances.

Failure to meet all the above criteria will result in returning to Tier 1 status. If after 28 days the patient meets all the above criteria, they will progress to Tier 3.

Tier 3 (Monthly Visits)

Requirement #1: Individuals must regularly attend at least one therapy/counseling or support group session per month, unless otherwise determined by medical provider.

Requirement #2: Individuals will have urine/oral drug screens monthly. Individuals must be negative for illicit substances except buprenorphine.

Requirement #3: Individuals must not miss any of their appointments, if they have, it must have been under extraordinary circumstances.

Failure to meet all the above criteria will result in returning to Tier 2 status.

Getting to this point will take hard work, support, and medication assistance. Many people have recovered with counseling and the help of Suboxone, so can you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

How does Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) work for opioid addiction at Rescue Recovery's Suboxone clinic?

Answer: MAT combines Suboxone, a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and cravings, promoting a smoother recovery process. Our comprehensive care approach addresses opioid addiction with a focus on medical expertise and compassionate support.

Q:

Isn’t taking Suboxone just substituting one addiction for another?

Answer: No, taking Suboxone is not merely substituting one addiction for another. Instead, it provides a controlled and supervised approach to managing opioid dependence. Suboxone contains buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist that activates brain opioid receptors to a lesser extent than full opioids. This helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms without inducing intense euphoria. When used as prescribed and as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, Suboxone supports individuals in regaining stability in their lives and progressing toward recovery.

Q:

How long will I be on Suboxone?

Answer: The length of time will vary from patient to patient. However, research indicates that individuals who discontinue Suboxone within the first 6 months are more prone to relapse. So, some patients may be on it for as little as 6 months, but others may need to take it indefinitely. It depends on factors affecting a patient’s sobriety, including stable housing and income, adequate psychosocial support, the absence of legal problems, opioid use disorder severity, mental health conditions, etc. Your provider will work with you to come up with a personal plan to fit your needs.

Q:

Can I receive Suboxone treatment through Telemedicine services at Rescue Recovery's clinic?

Answer: Yes, our Telemedicine services allow individuals to access Suboxone treatment from the comfort of their homes. This convenient option ensures accessibility while maintaining the effectiveness of the treatment.

Q:

What are the key benefits of choosing Rescue Recovery's Suboxone clinic for opioid addiction treatment?

Answer: By choosing our clinic, individuals benefit from the convenience of Telemedicine services, the effectiveness of Medication-Assisted Treatment with Suboxone, and the assurance of comprehensive care that combines medical expertise and compassionate support. Our approach aims to facilitate a successful and sustainable recovery journey.

Q:

What are the benefits of being on Suboxone long-term?

Answer: Many experts advocate for long-term Suboxone maintenance in treating opioid use disorder. Those on extended Suboxone therapy are more likely to sustain recovery, minimizing instances of opioid misuse and associated fatal overdoses. Given the persistent risk of relapse, even after extended abstinence, continued use of Suboxone plays a crucial role in the initial years of recovery, significantly decreasing the likelihood of relapse.
